The holder of Recreational Pilot certificate is required to have additional training and an instructor endorsement for any solo flight: Specific additional aircraft training requirements are outlined in 14 CFR 61.31, and instructor endorsements that attest to the satisfactory completion of this training are required. Because the pilot applicant does not already hold the ratings necessary to act as PIC, he or she must receive the solo flight endorsement from an instructor.
