A number of anglers were casting spoons along the shoreline at Walnut Creek this past Sunday just east of the channel with surprising success. A few anglers have been spotted targeting Spring ice out crappie along the south side of Presque Isle. The boaters are starting to pick a couple up out in the trenches. The exceptionally warm Lake temperatures this year seem to have fish on the move in search of colder more oxygen enriched waters. Although ice in most areas is still stable, there was considerable standing water and slush on the Bay and Tribs this past Monday. As the water temperature drops steelhead will typically become less active holding in the slower moving pools. Shoreline fishing should remain good until the we get into freezing temperatures and heavy winter wave conditions. These are new docks and it will take longer to get them out then it did the old ones. Occasional doubles were caught. Some of the others that were brought in were the same size. The access areas at both Walnut and Elk Creeks are still drawing the crowds for those in a hurry to find fish but plenty of room can be found upstream. The current Lake Erie water temperature off Toledo is 73 degrees, off Cleveland, 74 degrees and off Erie 74 degrees. It was 25 inches long and had a girth of 12 inches. People going out for Perch are getting them in anywhere from 48 ft to 60 ft mostly straight out of Walnut and then going east a little. Blustery with lows in the upper 20s. Walnut Creek was dredged in the beginning of the season and I have not been told by anyone that they are hitting in the channel so all looks good. I saw "Seawolf" Charters make two trips so the fishing must have been good. The boats are going out up to 35 ft of water and coming in with some Perch. Harness color was Gold. Conditions Spring Bass and crappie season is picking up as Bay temperatures slowly rise. The Perch seem to be out in 50-60 ft of water off Trout Run, Elk Creek and out of Walnut Creek. "Working" micro jigs can be very productive this time of year especially the marabou variety as they have a natural movement of their own. They still were nice fish and he was very happy. The weather is also allowing for good perch and burbot fishing along the Bayfront and along the North and South piers entering Lake Erie. Boaters have been picking up eyes in shallower water, 25 to 45 feet and in 60 to 65 feet North of the Point and West to Walnut Creek. A few steelhead are been caught. Before then, they are sparse and after that they seem to slack off a little. Within the first 20 minutes of opening there were at least five fish caught. Lows in the lower 20s. The Perch seem to be in 42-47 ft of water and also in 50-55 ft of water. As of December 3rd the office and restrooms will only be open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 7:00 am until 5:30 pm. Reef runners in gold and copper have been triggering good strikes as well as. The water temperature is 69 degrees. Walleye catches have been fair at night along the Lake shore in 15 to 25 feet of water. 60 to 65 feet of water north and northwest of Walnut Creek and along the first trench all the way north to the second trench in 75 to 90 feet of water.
